Energy and Emissions Trends

This chart shows over time the growth of renewable energy and carbon reduction relative to 2005 emissions. It shows passage of impactful legislation, Commission decisions on resource planning, closing of carbon emitting plants and opening of utility-scale renewable energy generation.

* With regard to the flat emissions between 2005 and 2011, Black Hills (formerly Aquila) purchased power from Xcel in those years. Therefore, those emissions are "owned" by Black Hills rather than Xcel.
