Household Goods Movers - Consumer Info
The PUC regulates household goods movers per title 40, article 10.1, C.R.S. and Commission rules. The Commission takes action against movers for: a) violating or exceeding the terms or conditions of the permit, or b) refusing to obey an order or rule.
Per statute, refunds for household goods movers must go through arbitration - 4-10.1- 507.
You can prevent moving fraud - and the headaches that come with it.
Be sure to:
- Ensure that your selected in-state moving company is permitted by the PUC
- If you're out of state, check with the U.S. Department of Transportation for help
- Get a written estimate and sign a contract - both required by all permitted household goods movers in Colorado
- Request an in-person inspection of your household goods to ensure the accuracy of your estimate
- Know your rights and responsibilities – the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration provides a helpful guide.
