Household Goods - Moving Resources
Don’t Lose Your Shirt Because of Moving Fraud
Moving is a hassle, even when it goes smoothly. It’s even worse if you’re faced with unethical or “rogue” moving companies.
The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) permits moving companies to protect you and your stuff, and accepts complaints when you feel a moving company has violated laws.
You can prevent moving fraud - and the headaches that come with it.
Be sure to:
- Ensure that your selected in-state moving company is permitted by the PUC
- If you're out of state, check with the U.S. Department of Transportation for help
- Get a written estimate and sign a contract - both required by all permitted household movers in Colorado
- Request an in-person inspection of your household goods to ensure the accuracy of your estimate
- Know your rights and responsibilities – the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal motor Carrier Safety Administration provides a helpful guide.
