Large-Market Taxicab Service - Industry Permit Info

Large-Market Taxicab Service carriers provide indiscriminate passenger transportation for compensation in a taxicab on a call-and-demand basis, within and between points in the counties of Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Jefferson, Larimer, and Weld, and between those points and all points within the State of Colorado, with the first passenger in the taxicab having exclusive use of the taxicab unless the passenger agrees to multiple loadings.

Part 7 of Title 40, Article 10.1, C.R.S., governs the Commission's role in the regulation of Large-Market Taxicab Services, as defined in 40-10.1-101(9.5), C.R.S.

Large-Market Taxicab Service carriers are subject to 6000 Series (General Rules), 6100 Series (Safety Rules), and 6800-6809 (Large-Market Taxicab Service Rules).

Authority/Permit Process

The permit process for a Large-Market Taxicab Service (LMT) involves submitting a permit application through the online permit portal. It is important to completely, and accurately, fill out the permit application and include all requested information, including Colorado Secretary of State documentation and vehicle inspections. The permit process will also involve your insurance company filing a copy of a required commercial motor vehicle liability policy on your behalf, through the online insurance portal. A rate schedule is also required to be filed in a repository proceeding (18M-0743TR). LMT permits cost $515.00 and are valid for one year. The purchase of vehicle stamps ($51.00/each) will also be required. A minimum fleet of 10 vehicles are required if operating in the Counties of El Paso, Larimer, and Weld. A minimum fleet of 25 vehicles are required if operating in the Counties of Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson.
