September 14, 2024 - Denver, Colorado - The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) recognizes “Digital Connectivity and Lifeline Awareness Week,” from September 8-14, and wants to help residents to get and stay connected through the federal Lifeline Program. The Lifeline Program helps provide access to local emergency services and community resources, which is vital to low-income residents to stay connected.

“The PUC wants to raise awareness of the Lifeline Program so Coloradans, who are income qualified, can take advantage of this program to be connected and save money,” said PUC Director Rebecca White. “The PUC encourages residents to apply for these benefits designed to help low-income Coloradans, and to help them access information and resources.”

Lifeline helps low-income consumers connect to the nation’s communications networks, find jobs, access health care services, connect with family, and call for help in an emergency. Under the federal Lifeline program, low-income consumers who participate in certain public assistance programs, or qualify based on income can receive a discount of up to $9.25 per month off their monthly bill for broadband, or bundled phone and broadband service, up to $5.25 for voice-only service, and up to a total of $34.25 per month for residents of qualifying Tribal lands.

There are 87,878 Coloradans enrolled in Lifeline, but on average more than 550,000 qualify.
