Colorado Public Utilities Commission Announces New Xcel Energy Time of Use Rates

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) announced that on Feb. 19, it finalized deliberations on the Xcel Energy Time of Use Rate Case Proposal, Proceeding No. 24AL-0377E. Utilities use Time of Use (TOU) rates to vary the cost of electricity during the day to more accurately reflect the actual cost of operating a utility’s electric system. TOU rates are the default for all residential customers, but consumers can choose to opt out for a flat rate structure.

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) announced that Governor Jared Polis has reappointed current PUC Chair Eric Blank for a second four-year term, effective Jan.12, 2025. Blank was first appointed PUC Chairman for a four-year term in January 2021. His reappointment is now subject to confirmation by the state legislature.

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) invites community members to provide comments regarding the Black Hills Electric rate case proposal. Black Hills is required to seek approval from the PUC to raise customer rates. The Company’s proposed increase– an annual revenue increase of approximately $37 million–would affect both residential and commercial rates.
